GRAHAM’s role in “helping shape” the Considerate Constructors Scheme (CCS) has been recognised with a five-year Partnership Longevity Award.
The Award, which celebrates the commitment of Partners in “improving the image of construction”, was presented to GRAHAM’s Head of Responsible Sustainable Business, Emer Murnaghan, at a Partners’ Meeting event in Coventry on Tuesday 19th June.
CCS is a non-profit-making, independent organisation founded in 1997 by the construction industry to improve its image.
Construction sites, companies and suppliers voluntarily register with the Scheme and agree to abide by the Code of Considerate Practice, designed to encourage best practice beyond statutory requirements.
Long association
GRAHAM has enjoyed a long association with the Scheme and was first registered with CCS in 1999 before securing Partner status in 2013.
The organisation was the first company in Northern Ireland to win a CCS National Award back in 2001 for the Europa Hotel Extension Project.
In 2017, the GRAHAM BAM Healthcare Partnership Ulster Hospital Phase B2 – General Ward Block project was named as the ‘CCS Most Considerate Site 2017 - £50m and over’.
In addition, each year GRAHAM continues to add an increasing number of GOLD, SILVER and BRONZE CCS Awards, which acknowledge and celebrate the excellent work of the privately-owned company’s project teams.
Partner organisations
There are currently 71 Partner organisations in the Scheme and each one's role centres on three core elements:
+ Registering all of their sites with the Scheme
+ Agreeing to work to the highest standards of consideration to the general public, the workforce and the environment
+ Promoting the Scheme and its aims
For Emer Murnaghan, the latest accolade is further validation of GRAHAM’s position as a leading player in promoting and achieving best practice within the sphere of considerate construction.
“We have had a long-term relationship with the CCS but to achieve this five-year milestone as a Partner is a fantastic achievement and one that everyone at GRAHAM is extremely proud of," said Emer who was recently named as one of two new incoming Vice Presidents by the Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE).
“As a business, we encourage best practice beyond statutory requirements and this Partnership Longevity Award provides independent, third party verification of our commitment. It has also enabled us to develop and implement a more holistic approach to the positive impact of construction on society.

Also emanating from the Partners’ Meeting event, was the beginning of a CCS #loveconstruction hashtag campaign, which Partner organisations will actively promote across a range of social media channels to positively showcase the construction industry.
