Pupils at Whitehirst Park Primary school enjoyed a donation of materials and repair work from principal contractor GRAHAM, to support the upkeep of the school and assist with their goal to be more sustainable.

GRAHAM, who is currently building social housing project, St Michael’s Wynd, comprising 79 new homes in Kilwinning, and being delivered for North Ayrshire Council by its development partner hub South West, assisted the school after pupils reached out to the contractor following a class project which also saw them identify Kilwinning as the perfect location for new homes in the area.

GRAHAM assisted with maintenance of the school grounds and restored the flagpole, planters, path edgings and picnic tables surrounding the school which fell into disrepair during the pandemic.

Gerard O’Hare, GRAHAM Contracts Manager, said:

“GRAHAM is committed to supporting the local community and we are thrilled to be able to assist with the upkeep of the school and to provide these resources in a sustainable way. We hope the new and improved facilities and garden will be enjoyed by the youngsters and passers-by in the community.

“It was brilliant to hear that the pupils had also identified the Kilwinning development as the perfect addition to the area in their class project. We hope that seeing their plans come to life will inspire and encourage more young people to think about a rewarding career in construction.”

Ms Munro, Primary 4/5 teacher and head of Whitehirst Park Primary School Sustainability Committee said:

“We are ecstatic with the work GRAHAM has carried out and the children really enjoyed researching and learning about construction, it will be fantastic for them to see their thoughts come to life.

“GRAHAM’s generous donation will allow for us to make full use of our safe and sustainable space, letting our pupils enjoy their outdoor environment during this difficult and challenging time.”
