Project summary

The multi-award winning Peace Bridge, with its 120 design lifespan, stands as a lasting symbol of integration and community engagement. The innovatively designed bridge connects the Ebrington regeneration zone with the heart of the city. Separate foot and cycle paths have been incorporated into the state-of-the-art infrastructure, which spans the fast-flowing River Foyle using a reverse curved, nautically inspired design. The Peace Bridge is already established as an iconic addition to the already rich built heritage of Derry~Londonderry.

The detail

The unique form of the bridge is intrinsically innovative. It comprises a curved, self-anchored design, with two inclined pylons dividing the structure into three continuous spans of up to 100m across the River Foyle and a further two approach spans spanning a railway and proposed access road. The main girder comprises a fabricated closed cell steel girder with cantilever cross girders on one side only, spanned by a perforated aluminium decking system.
